Private renters need local councillors who are on their side
Sign up here and pledge your support to renters.
Too many private renters live in homes that are insecure, overcrowded, damp or in a poor state of disrepair; yet they have sky high rents. This must change.
Local authorities and local councillors play a critical role in enforcing the rights of private renters.
The work you do can ensure all private renters live in a safe and decent home.
That’s why Generation Rent wants political parties and individual council candidates to pledge to commit to actions which will protect and engage private renters.
As a council candidate for the local elections on Thursday 5 May will you pledge to:
Be a champion for the private renters you represent?
- Always represent private renters living in cold or unsafe homes and those exploited by criminal landlords
Reach out and talk to local renters about the issues they face?
- Run regular ward door-to-door and drop-in sessions to identify improvements needed to local housing and enforcement strategies.
Make it easier for renters to understand how the council can help enforce their rights?
- Distribute information on how the council can help
Join the campaign for the legislative change?
- Campaign to ensure private renters live in safe, secure and affordable homes.
Please pledge today.
