Together we can end unfair evictions.
Join the 'Renters Reform Bill' campaign.
Currently the law in England means renters can be evicted without reason and given just eight weeks to pack up and move out. These unfair evictions need to end, which is why Generation Rent welcomed the Government's pledge to end Section 21 'no fault' evictions in 2019.
Two years later, renters are still waiting for the Government to act, but in the Queen’s Speech on 11 May 2021, they confirmed their commitment to reforming renting and “having a Better Deal for Renters in England.” The Government promised that the White Paper, which will begin the process of bringing in these legislative reforms, will be published in 2022.
Legislation is therefore coming.
So sign up today and join our campaign.
Together we can end unfair evictions and get the changes in law private renters desperately need.
Why does this legislation matter?
Being evicted, with just eight weeks notice for no reason whatsoever, is harrowing at any time. But over the winter period, eviction and the threat of homelessness are even more bleak.
Generation Rent research estimates that every 32 minutes this winter, someone will be evicted from their home without being given a reason.
Now the pandemic lifelines have been taken away, evictions are virtually back up to the pre-pandemic levels.
That's why we are fighting to make sure any new legislation for renters in England is as powerful as possible, and ends all unfair evictions for good.
We want to see:
- An end to unfair evictions as a result of abolishing Section 21
- A national register of landlords
- Tenants protected from unaffordable rent hikes

How you can help
- Sign up here to join the campaign
- Email your MP and ask them to pledge to stand up for renters
We need cross-party support if we are to secure the changes renter want to see.
Generation Rent acts as the secretariat of the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Renters and Rental Reform, and we're delighted to have support of Lloyd Russell-Moyle MP, the Chair of the APPG on Renters and Rental Reform supporting the campaign to end unfair evictions and reform renting through legislative change.
