Local authorities are the on the front line of our fight against coronavirus. Councils across the country have warned that homelessness services are preparing for an increase of cases after the Government's eviction ban is lifted.
The Government have extended the eviction ban until 20 September. With the virus undefeated and the economic outlook uncertain, this measure was necessary to keep renters in their homes. But it's not a permanent solution. To protect renters' homes throughout this crisis, the Government must:
1. Pass emergency legislation to prevent coronavirus evictions.
2. End the rent debt crisis, through raising LHA, lifting the benefit cap and providing grants to those in arrears.
3. Deliver on their commitment to end Section 21.
As a Councillor, you can help us make sure renters are protected by adding your name to the #NoHomeAtRisk campaign today.
