Can my landlord move a new tenant in?

What to do if you have separate tenancies and the landlord is trying to move a new tenant in

Answer

The housing market is open and the government has said that house moves can go ahead.

If you are concerned about staying safe and don't want your landlord to move a new tenant in, your best option is to try and negotiate with the landlord. The landlord may be able to change the start date to move the new tenant in, the new tenant may also prefer to delay the move.

Viewings are permitted as of 13 May but the government has advised "If any member of either the household being viewed, or the household undertaking a viewing is showing symptoms of coronavirus or is self-isolating, then a physical viewing should be delayed."

If you can't delay the move, follow social distancing measures with your new housemate as closely as you can.
